run to the coast
may 2008
Driving to Hayling Island for breakfast may sound a bit extravagant, but when the sun is shining & you have a few nice cars heading along with you, getting up at silly o'clock is soon forgotten. With the 308 temporarily out of action we decided to attack the coast run in the MG, top down.
On the move, it wasn't long before we realised just how seriously out horse powered we were against the crowd we left the meeting point with. Never the less we pressed on throwing the little car faster into each corner. Despite the lack of power against the Aston Martins and TVR's, I found a new respect for the MG. The steering was precise and sharp and the suspension I usually criticise for being too stiff kept us right on track without the slightest slip or jump. However we decided the pace was a little too quick for us at that time of the morning so we decided to ease off and take it at our pace.
Before long a Dax Cobra and Nissan Skyline joined us and the 3 of us continued together at a fair but relaxing pace.
Blessed with glorious sunshine, fantastic roads and stunning scenery, and following the sound and sight of a Cobra’s rump, I was in my element. Along the route we collected a few more stragglers before arriving at Hayling Island Yacht club for breakfast.
But the day didn't end there. Just up the road was Victory Wheelers Hot Rod show.
